| What was SSWIMS? SSWIMS was a Teacher Enhancement Program under the organizational umbrella of the UCLA Marine Science Center and funded by National Science Foundation grant ESI 9819424 from 1999 to 2005. What was the purpose of SSWIMS? The disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and earth and space sciences are inter-related. They can be more readily appreciated and better understood by elementary and secondary school teachers and students if these disciplines, traditionally presented separately and sequentially, are woven into an integrated standards-based curriculum using a common theme of the marine environment. The SSWIMS program trained K-12 teachers in using a integrated standards-based curriculum using a common theme of the marine environment |
