Background and Directions for Using Oceanlist
Keep up to date with recent developments in marine science and marine science eductation. Join OceanList by emailing Peggy Hamner.
OceanList is a type of e-mail service called a listserv, which allows subscribers to share information without addressing a message to many individual recipients.
Any subscriber can post a message of general interest, but messages should be related to our theme of using integrative marine science. Only subscribers can post a message, which reduces the possibility of spam and viruses
Some of the kinds of messages subscribers post on OceanList
are:
1. web sites of particular interest to educators using marine science
2. announcements of upcoming workshops
3. questions other subscribers might be able to answer
4. teaching positions open at schools, other positions
5. text of a news article
6. reminders about upcoming tv broadcasts such as “Blue Planet,”
“Shape of Life”
7. opinions of new books, videotapes, etc
OceanList currently has about 400 subscribers, most of whom are teachers who have been through our teacher enhancement programs M-STEP, LIMS, and/or SSWIMS, plus a few other educators who've asked to join. (If you know of someone else who would like to join, let Peggy Hamner know).
Messages sent to OceanList automatically go to all subscribers, but to no one else. Replies to an OceanList message automatically go only to the sender. Or you can send your reply automatically go to all other subscribers by typing OceanList’s address, OCEANLIST@LISTSERV.UCLA.EDU
Your reply to an OceanList message automatically goes only to the person who posted the message. Or your reply will automatically go to all other subscribers if you send your reply to OceanList’s address, OCEANLIST@LISTSERV.UCLA.EDU.
