The r/v Sea World UCLA, operated by a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, is a long-range research vessel that provides an ideal platform for marine research in the Southern California Bight and for transport and living quarters for terrestrial research on the Channel Islands.  The aft hold has been modified for use as a dry lab.

SCUBA diving is supported aboard ship for up to 12 divers.  For cruises that involve SCUBA, a dive plan must be submitted to the UCLA Marine Science Center in advance for approval by the UCLA Diving Safety Officer.  Cruise schedules, cruise tracks and equipment will be tailored to specific needs of researchers and instructors.  For an appointment to inspect the Sea World UCLA, call the ship's number,  (310) 433-5008, to speak to the Captain, Willie McCarthy.
