The UCLA Marine Science Center provides two outreach opportunities for educational purposes aboard UCLA’s ship, the r/v Sea World UCLA.

Cruising Classroom allows teachers of grades 4-12 to supplement their classroom instruction with field experiences into the Santa Monica Bay. Aboard the Sea World UCLA, students learn about oceanography, marine organisms and navigation.  These trips reinforce many scientific terms and concepts introduced in class and provide students with a first hand experience of their local marine ecosystem.

Our Course Instruction program is geared to more advanced High School, college level and adult groups and is available to community organizations.  Programs aboard the Sea World UCLA can incorporate some of the activities used in the Cruising Classroom, or the program can be tailor made to meet your educational objectives.  Frequent Course Instruction Cruises have included marine mammal studies, seabird distribution, chemical oceanography, and studies of zonation of marine organisms.
