The primary goal of Cruising Classroom is to introduce students to the Santa Monica Bay and to instill an appreciation for this complex, diverse, and fragile ecosystem.  That goal is realized through engaging the students in hands-on scientific explorations and dialogs with instructors.  Students collect and analyze a variety of physical, biological and chemical data, using the sampling equipment aboard the Sea World UCLA.

Cruising Classroom uses a series of stations, each devoted to a particular theme or activity, and led by a trained staff member or volunteer.  Students collect and analyze a variety of physical, biological, and chemical data, using the sampling equipment aboard the Sea World UCLA. Throughout the cruise, instructors point out marine mammals, seabirds, and geographical features and relate these to information provided in the stations.  They discuss environmental issues affecting the Bay and ways in which students can help reduce the harmful human impacts on the coastal marine environment.
